Do you want to buy a tropical palm tree for example for your subtropical greenhouse or your office? We have a large selection of tropical palm trees. We have put these in a row especially for you. You can find them in the category 'Tropical palms'.

Tropical palm trees are unique and give the space in which they are placed the atmosphere of tropical places.

These palms are imported from the tropics and are acclimatized to the number of light hours in the Netherlands for at least a number of years. This is done in a gigantic tropical greenhouse.

You can use our tropical palm trees for example for a subtropical swimming pool, subtropical greenhouse or in your office. Please note: some species need high humidity to grow, such as the coconut palm. You can only place it in a place where there is a humidity of at least 70%, and the temperature does not drop below 18 degrees.

Want to buy a semi-hardy palm tree? We have selected these palms especially for you and they can be outside in spring and summer and can tolerate a few degrees of frost.

Do you want to buy a beautiful palm that you can put outside during the summer months? Then these palms are really something for you.

Frequently Asked Questions about Palm Trees

How should I care for my palm tree?

You can buy a palm tree, but then you definitely need knowledge about its care. A palm tree is a fairly easy plant, but there are a few points that need to be taken into account.

The roots of a palm tree like to root in an airy soil structure. We recommend Mediterranean nutrient soil to promote rooting.
Palm trees need nutrients to grow and become strong. For this we recommend feeding the palm tree with bacterial nutrient tablets. These tablets ensure that the soil becomes actively bacterial, and that it will be fed with high quality nutrients for a year. You should also keep the soil slightly moist in spring, autumn and winter. In the warmest days of summer the root ball may be soaking wet every day, it cannot be wet enough on those days, because the palm uses a lot of moisture and some of it will evaporate.
In the winter when there is a lot of cold, then at a cold difference of 7 degrees of the indicated winter hardiness indication, you can start protecting the palm. You do this by wrapping the pot with an insulating material such as bubble wrap. And you wrap the crown with a breathable fabric, such as fleece or jute.
In very cold weather you can put a light string around the trunk, turn it on, and then put some insulating material around it to keep the heat inside.

Which palm tree should I choose?

When you want to buy a palm tree there are many possibilities to choose from. Every palm tree requires a little light. So a pure shade spot is strongly discouraged. Half shade is the least required.
If you want to place the palm tree inside in the warmth on a sunny spot, then you basically have the choice of all types, because all types of palm trees can be kept inside. So then it comes down to what you find most beautiful and what fits best with your home also for the coming years of growth.
If you want to place the palm tree outside, we recommend the hardy species, unless the palm can be brought inside in the winter. The hardiest species that we sell are the Trachycarpus fortunei, Chamaerops humilis (Vulcano), Wagnerianus, the cabbage palm, and other species (e.g. Jubaea chilensis). The semi-hardy species are also suitable in principle, but need protection more quickly, or must be brought inside if necessary.
But when choosing a palm tree, it is mainly about what you are looking for, what you like, and then also looking at the years to come, thinking about the growth of the palm tree.

How do I plant my new palm tree?

You have purchased a palm tree and now want to know how to plant it in a pot or in the garden.
When planting in a pot, fill the pot with soil until the top edge of the root ball is slightly below the edge of the pot, so that when watering, the water does not run off. We recommend filling the pot completely with Mediterranean nutrient soil. This ensures optimal rooting.
When planting in the open ground, we recommend spreading a generous amount of Mediterranean nutrient soil around the root ball, so that the roots can take root optimally and are not hindered by the soil type. The top of the root ball of the palm should be level with the ground level. If the palm is not level with the ground level, you should either dig deeper or add some soil to the bottom.

Can I really buy palm trees here in the Netherlands?

Yes, that is no longer a problem! With our climate change, the warmer winters, the most winter-hardy palm species can live well in the Netherlands. The Fortunei is the most suitable for this because of its winter hardiness, and really gives a tropical look to any environment.
